Kasteel Bruin by Honsebrouk - Brew Review by David Harris
Kasteel Bruin by Honsebrouk. This is possibly one of the most worthy of all Belgian Bruins, if not all Belgians, if not all Ales. The Donker is the exact same beer as Kasteel Bruin-Brune, and all have multiple packaging labels, so if you see one, just get it. There aren’t many words for how good this beer is. Suffice it to say that in almost 40 years of life I’ve sampled over 1,200 beers (really . . . not faking it like the kids who say they’ve tried 30,000 labels) and this is in the top 5 of all time of all kinds. Knock-your- ass-down strong, but not a skull splitting pain. Make-your-tongue-sing sweet, but not cloying in the least. Dark like the brown eyes of your brown eyed girl, but not muddy or oily or opaque. Deep as the deep blue sea, but not chock full of silly choices and infusions. Simply put, she is a strong, sweet, dark, deep glass of what they’d drink in Valhalla if they could get enough up there. Cheers!
