Barack Obama’s Video Infomercial from October 29
This is the 1st installment of Barack Obama’s infomercial from last night. And yes, there is confusion around Obama’s statement regarding taxes for individuals making $200K vs. families making $250K. For more info, read the 1st page of http://www.barackobama.com/pdf/taxes/Factsheet_Tax_Plan_FINAL.pdf:Middle class families will see their taxes cut – and no family making less than $250,000 will see their taxes increase. The typical middle class family will receive well over $1,000 in tax relief under the Obama plan, and will pay tax rates that are 20% lower than they faced under President Reagan. According to the Tax Policy Center, the Obama plan provides three times as much tax relief for middle class families as the McCain plan.ii Indeed, according to the National Review, McCain’s plan “offers very little in the way of direct benefits to Americans in the middle of the income scale.”
Also, from page 5 of http://www.barackobama.com/pdf/taxes/Factsheet_Tax_Plan_FINAL.pdf:
o Repealing a portion of the Bush tax cuts for families over $250,000 while continuing to leave their tax rates at or below where they were in the 1990s:
o Ordinary Income: The top two income tax brackets would return to their 1990’s levels of 36% and 39.6%. All other tax brackets would remain as they are today. Obama would also restore the 1990’s levels for the personal exemption and itemized deduction phaseouts (known as PEP and Pease). Obama would work with the Treasury Department to adjust the thresholds of these rates slightly to ensure that no married couple making less than $250,000 (or single making less than $200,000) was affected by these changes.
Get educated. Have an opinion, even if it’s different than mine, speak up! Maybe you know something I don’t. But I do know ONE thing: we need a change. The way we’re doing it right now is not only failing to work, it’s failing, period. And John McCain has only “enhanced” versions of current policies to offer. Barack Obama is different. He DOES stand for change, and this scares people…it’s called “fear of the unkown.” Sometimes we get a little scared when we have to do something good for us, but we’re uncertain of the outcome. A good friend of mine and successful businessman named Gene Rice once told me, “Andy, if what you’re doing isn’t working, you need to change what you’re doing.” Well, what we’re doing isn’t working. Gene was right. And so is Obama. Vote for change.
